GATE CSE: Pioneering Computer Science Education in India

With 85000 members, GATECSE is India's largest forum for  Computer Science.

GATE CSE represents a community of accomplished Computer Science engineers. While some members hail from prestigious institutions like IISc and IITs, our community is not confined solely to these backgrounds. We are proud to include exceptional computer scientists and skilled individuals from lesser-known colleges, as well as professionals from multinational corporations who generously contribute their programming expertise. Additionally, we receive support from well-wishers based in the United States, who, despite not having engineering backgrounds, actively participate in group management. Our strength lies in the collaboration and knowledge sharing among these diverse platforms that have come together as a consortium.

GATE CSE, helps students prepare for Computer Science related exams.    We help students prepare for exams like GATE and also in programming interviews. The focus is on topics like Algorithms, Operating systems, Databases, Mathematics, and Computer theory.

The platform is an online classroom, where students can post any question on computer science and expect an answer within minutes. Some mentors answer the questions and ensure the quality of answers posted by others.

 About GATE

GATE is an all-India examination for post-graduation admission into IIT / IISc

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduate_Aptitude_Test_in_Engineering The exam is scheduled to be on February 7-8, 2015. To help aspirants in the Computer Science stream,  http://virtualgate.in/  was launched by Techtud.  Within a few days, we got 1000+ registrations. All the important links needed for GATE preparation are compiled at http://gatecse.in/ and notes are present at http://getbook.co/gate

 About GateOverflow

GateOverflow is the Q&A platform for  CS&IT students. All the previous year's GATE questions from 1991 are here, and most of them are answered, reviewed, and commented on by the GATECSE community.    GATEOverflow encourages students to follow the right approach to solve a question rather than simply get the solution.

We aim to make the aspirants realize this. Several GATE aspirants are thankful for our approach. We're also thankful to several IISC and IIT guys who have provided top-quality answers both directly as well as indirectly.

It is solely through their valuable contributions that we are able to provide comprehensive answers and references to a multitude of questions. GATEOverflow aspires to evolve into a knowledge repository encompassing a wide array of computer science questions.

Users can also submit various other questions and utilize features such as tag search, categorization, notifications, favourites, and more, all designed to facilitate effortless question retrieval. This platform operates as a free resource driven by dedicated volunteers committed to enhancing computer science education in India, with the goal of making it accessible to all.

 About TechTud

Techtud is a collaborative effort initialized by experts from IITs and IISc. It is a non-profit ambitious 'Sociotechnical Project' to create a completely free, reachable, and interactive online educational environment.

This platform has various embedded social media features along with well-structured and modularized content making the process of learning more engaging.

An array of content on any topic in the form of videos, illustrations, examples, short notes, and resources gives its members the freedom to learn or contribute in any format.

Apart from quizzes and discussions, there is a way for students to clarify their doubts. Contents are automatically ordered as per user ratings to ensure that the quality content remains at the top.

Students can use Techtud as a resource bank and learn in a better way by interacting with other students and experts. If they are confident enough, they can contribute content in various forms.

Teachers can use it to create a living online profile that will grow continuously as proof of their skills and passion for teaching.

Around 1.5 million engineers pass out every year, but a vast majority of them are rarely employable, primarily due to a lack of basic concepts. Techtud aims to change this scenario.

 About our Facebook Group

Started by Arvind Devaraj,  it is interesting to see the Facebook group reach 85000 people. It started as a simple mailing list in 2006 and then continued in Orkut.

Back in 2009, Balaji Vishwanathan initiated NalandaU, a website aimed at providing online education to those who couldn't access institutions like Stanford due to financial constraints. This endeavour predates the emergence of Coursera and even Khan Academy during their early stages of development.

We had a brief discussion with him about making education affordable to everyone. We started collecting a lot of study materials. Then, we realized getting the students together on a single platform was the harder part, than collecting the study materials. Facebook was one platform where students hung around. So, we started the Facebook group in 2010.

The key administrators include Arjun Suresh, Arvind Devaraj, Rajesh Pandey, Bikram, and Kathleen. While it's relatively simple to address questions for a year or two, sustaining the same level of enthusiasm over the long term, as demonstrated by Arjun Suresh, is quite challenging. Rajesh has dedicated years to performing administrative duties as a volunteer.

Kathleen is from the United States and has created more impact in the lives of Indian students than many bureaucrats could achieve. Bikram is relentlessly pursuing the goal of free education for all.

We are highly indebted to the numerous contributors and it would take a page to mention their names. The list is maintained at http://getbook.co/gatementors.

Being an admin or contributor here is a hard job, where there are no external rewards, except for the feeling inside your heart that you have helped someone and made a positive difference in their life.
