NDTV Journalist Ravish Kumar Receives Ramon Magsaysay Award

One of the most influential TV journalists and senior executive editor of NDTV Ravish Kumar has been awarded with this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Award for harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless and his unfaltering dedication to professional, ethical journalism of the highest standards. Ravish has won this honor for his news show, Prime Time that deals with real-life, under-reported problems of ordinary people.

Ravish is among the five persons who were awarded this honor. The four other winners are Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from the Philippines, Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea, Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Ko Swe Win from Myanmar.

Magsaysay Award

Magsaysay Awards is known as ‘Asia’s Noble Prize, and it is among the highest honors in the region. It was established in 1957. It celebrates the memory and leadership example of the third Philippine president after who the award is named, and is awarded every year to person or organizations in Asia who manifest the same selfless services and transformative impacts.

Ravish Kumar has been with NDTV since 1996 and has suffered a lot of problems because of his fearless plain-speak. His childhood started in Jitwarpur in Bihar, and he pursued his early interest in history and public affairs at the Delhi University. And, by winning this honor, he has joined the list of another notable winner like Kiran Bedi, Arun Shourie, K Laxman, P Sainath, and others. In a time, when TV journalism is losing its credibility, a person like Ravish Kumar is becoming the voice of reason. And, he deserves this honor.
